INGREDIENTS

  • Granny Smith apples
  • Sugar
  • Corn starch
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Salt
  • Pie crust (homemade or premade)
  • Egg wash (egg and water)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat grill to 425 degrees over indirect heat. Use hickory and cherry woods.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine sugar, corn starch, cinnamon, sugar, and salt (dry ingredients). Mix well.
  4. Bring apple slices into large bowl and mix with dry ingredients. Mix until the juices from the apples combine with dry ingredients to make apple pie filling.
  5. Grease 9″ round pie tin and place one pie crust in. Spoon in apple pie filling and make level in pie crust. Top pie with second pie crust. Cut a few slits in pie to vent.
  6. Pinch the edges of pie together, cut off excess pie crust that goes over the edge.
  7. Make egg wash with egg and water. Use basting brush to apply thin layer on top of pie crust.
  8. Bake on grill for 40 to 45 minutes. Remove when apples are soft.
  9. Let rest for at least an hour before serving.
